Although the communities we serve in Haiti and East Africa have so far been spared the worst of the COVID outbreak, they have been affected badly by the ongoing implications of the global disruption. With economies in turmoil, and supply chains severely disrupted, those living in poverty are suffering the most. All this comes as many charities are experiencing their own challenges as funding sources diminish due to the impact of COVID-19.
This Christmas, we must act so that mothers and babies in Haiti can still receive the care they deserve. HHA must raise at least £5000 a month to maintain our partner hospital’s maternity and neonatal services.
Making a personal donation, fundraising through a home-based challenge, or helping to promote our cause within your church this Christmas, will make a big difference as we seek to secure these vital healthcare services during the COVID pandemic and beyond.
Please watch and share our Christmas Appeal film with your networks, and support our appeal to bring hope and light to vulnerable communities in Haiti and East Africa.
Supporting vulnerable families in Haiti and East Africa
For refugees in Uganda’s vast settlements, life is even harder this Christmas. Existing food insecurity has been exacerbated by further shortages of supply. There has been a 30% cut in refugee food rations, and malnutrition is rising in young children. The World Food Programme predicts that the number of people facing food insecurity will have doubled by the end of 2020 - a tragedy affecting vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, people with disabilities, and children, the most.
HHA operates programmes to relieve the suffering for some of the most vulnerable. We supply malnutrition treatment for thousands of young children. We train and equip people with disabilities to grow their own harvests, and we equip local health teams with the means to identify high-risk pregnancies through our CRADLE programmes.
This Christmas, the challenges faced by birthing mothers in Haiti, and refugee families experiencing food insecurity, are greater than ever. But with your help, HHA can make a difference to thousands of lives.
If you are a church leader, we’d love you to include our message in your festive service planning. Our church partnerships are the foundation for much of our work. Please consider showing our short film to your members (downloadable via link below) and holding a collection in support of our appeal.
