Mum's the word!

Our Disability Coordinator and Paediatric Physiotherapist, Brooke, has been busy completing the first lot of home visits for the children at MdB to evaluate their accessibility needs.

During her first visit, Brooke taught this Foster Mum how to properly secure this little guy into his brand new wheelchair (which has had plenty of adaptations specifically for his body and positioning) and demonstrated a new physical therapy home exercise to perform with her son. |

At another home visit, the team delivered a brand new wheelchair for this Foster Mum's son to use at home. This mother caught the heart of our team with her story. Not only does she take the time, care and offer physical therapy to this cheeky chappy, but every single day she hikes up this mountain to get to/from her house to gather food and to transport her son to the Maison - all still with that big smile on her face. We are amazed at her strength and will to do this each day to be the best Mum she can be. |

This gorgeous girl absolutely loves her new wheelchair and gave us a giant smile once she was in! In this chair, her head is properly supported and not leaning too far backwards or hanging to the side (as she was in her previous chair). Foster Mom was also thankful for the team teaching a new home exercise program as she was worried her daughter was not getting enough therapy with the Maison being open 50% of the time. We will be working on some solutions for accessibility in her home environment...watch this space!

On this home visit, our team gave this smiley girl a wheelchair to have for home use, and educated her Foster Mom on small changes she can make for her home to be more accessible and easier to give her child care. The team also taught physical therapy home exercises with stretches to increase the child's range of motion and play therapy activities she can do at home to strengthen and increase the use of her Left arm. |
