A 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Haiti has displaced thousands of families from their homes. They need your help.

A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck south-western Haiti at around 8.30am local time on Saturday 14th August 2021.

Haitian authorities have reported over 2,200 people have died and it's estimated over 12,000 have been injured, though there are fears these figures could continue to rise. It's believed over 30,000 families have had to leave their homes.

While on-going assessment of the region continues, it's been reported that around 130,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed, alongside health facilities, schools, churches and other infrastructure. This latest, tragic disaster comes following several years of instability, including the recent assassination of the President and was followed by Tropical Storm Grace which hit Haiti on Tuesday 17th August whilst families slept outside in fear of potential aftershocks causing weakened buildings to collapse.

We have been working with our partner hospital in Haiti, HCBH and are prepared for any spinal cord injury (SCI) referrals that we may receive from south Haiti in the coming weeks. Through our partnership with Walkabout Foundation, we are sending 80 wheelchairs from the HHA Walkabout Wheelchair Distribution Centre to partners on the frontline, to support their rehabilitation efforts.

Through our partnership with The Baptist Convention of Haiti and their network of local churches, enough aid has been gathered to provide 1,300 kits for people in remote areas of Haiti that are currently not receiving adequate aid. These kits include rice, beans, oil, water, spaghetti, soap, detergent and toothpaste.

We will continue to support these relief efforts over the coming weeks.

You can support this ongoing work by making a donation.
