Haiti is a beautiful country in the Caribbean, sharing the same island as the Dominican Republic. It is also the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere with on-going natural disasters and political instability hindering its progress.
Volunteering In Haiti
In 2007 we helped co-found Hopital Convention Baptiste d’Haiti which is now one of the leading hospitals in northern Haiti, just outside of Cap-Haitien, one of Haiti’s largest cities. The hospital is now a 100 bed facility that supports 270 local Haitian staff. We specialise in maternal health, infant health, rehabilitation and respite care for people with disabilities, community health and trauma. All of our volunteering opportunities in Haiti are based at the hospital and respite centre.
We require volunteers to respectfully work alongside our Haitian team, learning from one another and serving their needs. Our heart is to equip and empower local capacity so there is a heavy emphasis on teaching and building to that end. We love welcoming people of all faiths and none to volunteer, but volunteers should be comfortable working within the hospital and HHA’s Christian ethos.
